Overview
Eldelia is an AI-powered digital companion for seniors living alone, available on both app stores. It blends voice-based AI chat with practical utilities like medication reminders and shopping lists, plus a memory system that personalizes interactions from past conversations. It launched in English and German with a 4.8/5 Trustpilot rating.
The challenge
Designing for elderly users is high-stakes: the demographic often lacks smartphone familiarity, gets overwhelmed by complex interfaces, and abandons products that feel impersonal. The AI also had to feel safe and human — not cold or mechanical — to first-time chatbot users.
The solution
The design reduces cognitive load throughout. Voice is the primary input, removing keyboard reliance. The UI uses large, high-contrast elements with minimal clutter, and onboarding completes in under three minutes with no jargon. The AI responds at a deliberate pace; reminders and lists are one tap from the home screen; the memory feature surfaces subtly to feel personal without surveillance.
Outcome
- 4.8/5 Trustpilot rating at launch
- Voice-first interface for limited smartphone experience
- High-contrast UI meeting WCAG accessibility standards
- 3-minute onboarding requiring no technical knowledge
- Bilingual product (English and German)
